La Bayka gradually transformed from an abandoned site in a state of neglect to a place full of corners and stimulating atmospheres that invite creative work. It was a laborious but above all very fun task.
It is very important to mention that all the work was done by the people and friends who make up this artistic collective, a space created with our own hands using for its reconstruction materials and elements that had been discarded, recovering a myriad of objects and gadgets, transforming them and often giving them a different use than they originally had.
For Espai la Bayka, the culture of recycling, ecology and the promotion of sustainable development is one of our priorities.
Shared workshops and co-working spaces
Espai la Bayka also offers the possibility of sharing permanent workspaces, artistic residencies, and co-working. An ideal space for painters, designers, puppet builders, photographers, etc.
The premises have good lighting and comfortable and open areas to work of approximately 10 m2 each. The total size of the space is approximately 140 m2, with 2 bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, and also a 20 m2 patio to enjoy a chill-out area. It is located in the Santa Eulalia neighborhood within the cultural district of the municipality of l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona.
The building, built at the beginning of the last century, is divided
between residential floors and a side warehouse, where the creative space is located. This
place was, during the first half of the 20th century, part of the textile industry network in l’Hospitalet, serving as a warehouse and industrial workshop, then closing for many years, until in 2018 the artists Aleksandra Muchin and Mauricio Riobó restored the place,
transforming it into the artistic space that it is today.
The place has an open room, with high ceilings with wooden beams and brick walls, in addition to a loft built with Oregon pine wood. This main warehouse is 11 meters long and 5.20 meters wide. La Bayka, is a versatile site, capable of transforming from a design and craft workshop, to a rehearsal room, a space to represent theatrical performances and different artistic activities.
